10 detained in raid on Himachal rave party

Shimla, (IANS) At least 10 revellers at a rave party, attended mainly by foreigners, were detained in the picturesque Manikaran Valley of Himachal Pradesh, police said Sunday. Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar told IANS that blood and urine samples of 10 people were taken after the raid in Kullu district Saturday.
“We are awaiting the medical report. Those who test positive would be arrested (for consuming drugs),” he added. Police suspect there were 300 people at the party held close to Kasol village, 42 km from Kullu town. Some of the revellers managed to escape. Cigarettes, bottles of alcohol and tracks of trance music were seized, said a police official.
The Manikaran Valley, some 275 km from state capital Shimla, is notorious for poppy cultivation and rave parties. Police officials said poppy, grown illegally in vast tracts of Kullu, Mandi and Chamba districts, attracted a large number of backpackers to the higher reaches where some of them become part of poppy smuggling.
