MCC bans use of plastic flags on Independence Day

Mangalore: The Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) has issued a circular banning the production, use, and sale of plastic flags on Independence Day.

The civic body made the above decision after carefully considering the harmful effects of plastic on the environment. It has also been observed that plastic flags are manufactured in huge quantities and used on Independence Day, after which they are carelessly thrown away. This is a violation of the Indian Flag Code of 2002, owing to which the civic body decided that such flags should not be sold or used.

The civic body has clarified that people can use hand-made paper flags, but should not violate the Indian Flag Code of 2002. -MT-
