Mangalore, Aug 1, 2012:
The city police on July 31, Tuesday arrested three more people in
connection with the attack on youngsters at Morning Mist Home Stay, a
resort in Padil, on July 28.
The
arrested are Varun Poojary (20) of Vamanjoor, Kiran Poojary (20) of
Malali Matti in Kaikamba, and Punith (19). They are all members of the
Hindu Janajagarana Vedike (HJV). So far, the police have arrested 15
people in connection with this case.
Shailesh of Jalligudde, Harish and
Chethan of Padil, and Sunil of Thokkottu were arrested on July 30,
Monday. Rajesh, Taranath, Ganesh, Subhash Padil, Sharath, Sandeep
Shetty, Venugopal, and Taranath were arrested immediately after the
attack.
A city crime branch (CCB) team under the leadership of Inspector Venkatesh Prasanna arrested the above mentioned. According to the police, they arrested the culprits based on an analysis of the video footage and the statements given by those arrested earlier.
On July 28, HJV activists barged into the resort and assaulted students. A number of students, members of the general public, colleges, and social organizations have raised their voice in protest. The HJV, however, claims that it is innocent and that the entire attack was engineered by the people of Padil, who were fed up of illegal activities at the home stay. - MT
