Mumbai: Veteran Bollywood actor Avtar Kishan Hangal aka AK
Hangal passed away here today. He was 95. Hangal was admitted to Asha
Parekh Hospital in Santa Cruz in suburban Mumbai on August 16, after he
slipped and fell in his bathroom, fracturing his right thigh bone, on
August 13.
Hangal,
who had been in and out of hospital since the last few years, suffered
from several ailments including tuberculosis, high blood pressure and
kidney dysfunction. Doctors attending to him felt that he needed to be
operated on but considering his advanced age it was decided that he was
not fit for surgery.
Hangal had
participated in the country’s freedom struggle before he joined the
Hindi film industry. He has acted in over 200 films which included
‘Sholay’, ‘Bawarchi’, ‘Aaina’ and ‘Namak Haram’ Recently, he was seen in
a TV show called ‘Madhubala’. (ANI)
