A massive fire gutted two warehouses in Sharjah Industrial Area 2 on Monday.
The fire broke out at about 1pm in a petrochemical company’s warehouse and spread to a neighbouring furniture warehouse, according to Brigadier Abdullah Saeed Al Suwaidi, Director of Sharjah Civil Defence.
Although it took the firefighters about an hour and a half to completely control the blaze, no one was reportedly injured.
Firefighters from Dubai and various other fire stations in Sharjah helped douse the flames and ambulances were also deployed in case there were any suffocation cases. The area was cordoned off and a number of roads were also closed for traffic.
Thick smoke billowed from the gutted warehouses that contained inflammable materials such as chemical and petroleum materials, besides wood and sponge, stored.
The police is investigating the cause of the fire.
