Karkala, Sep 27: Three women workers drowned in a granite quarry pond at Nelligudde in Kalya village, Karkala taluk, on Wednesday, September 26.
The diseased are identified as Bharati, Huligamma, both 18, and Nagaratna, 21 years, who were workers in the granite quarry. They are from Shirahatti in Gadag district said the Karkala Rural Police.
The three might have gone for bath in the mining pit-turned-pond where they used to wash clothes and bathe everyday said Superintendent of Police Dr Boralingaiah M B. It was not yet clear how all the three drowned, he added.
Bodies of two women have been traced and the search is on for the other. A case has been registered in Karkala Rural police station. - MT
