Bajrang Dal workers stop tempo transporting cow

Mangalore, Oct 4, 2012 : Members of the Bajrang Dal stopped a mini tempo, which was illegally transporting a cow, at Kulshekar on Oct 3, Wednesday and informed the police.
Allegedly, Padmanabha had sold his 5-year-old cow to a man in Ulaibettu and the cow was being transported to Ulaibettu from Padmanabha’s house in Maroli. Padmanabha was in the vehicle when Bajrang Dal workers stopped it.

The police have seized the tempo and arrested Padmanabha and the tempo driver. The man who purchased the cow has fled the scene.

A Bajrang Dal worker said that they stopped the tempo near Kulshekar Dairy and handed over the two men to the police.

According to Padmanabha, he had sold the cow to a Muslim in Ulaibettu as the latter had told him he needed a cow for domestic purposes. He had requested Padmanabha to come in the tempo while he would follow in his two-wheeler. However, when he saw Bajrang Dal workers, he fled from the scene.

The tempo driver said that Padmanabha had hired his tempo and that he had agreed to transport the cow only because the owner had agreed to accompany him. He said that he had no connection with the man who had purchased the cow.

The police are currently searching for man who had fled. - MT
