Udupi Lokayukta raids sub-registrar’s office


Udupi: The Udupi Lokayukta raided the sub-registrar’s office and seized unaccountable cash from three employees on July 18, Wednesday. 

The raid began at 5:45 p.m. and continued late into the night. 

The Lokayukta team retrieved Rs. 20,615, of which Rs. 17,900 was with Sub-registrar Kavitha, Rs. 1,070 was with Vanajakshi, and Rs. 1,645 was with Anand. They took Anand into custody and registered cases against Vanajakshi and Kavita. 

Lokayuka SP Jagamayyanwar told reporters that the Lokayukta team decided to raid the sub-registrar’s office because they had received many complaints from the public. Stating that the sub-registrar’s office is not being run in a proper manner, he said that daily accounts of fees collected for various transactions and registrations were not properly maintained. A thorough investigation will be held, he added. 

Sadanand Y. Varnekar, Lokayukta DySP; Timmayya and B. P. Dineshkumar, sub inspectors; Riyaz Ahmed, Nagesh Udupa, Shridhar G., Ramachandra, Divakar Kumar, Shobha, Shivaraj Billava, and other police personnel took part in the raid. –MT-
