A 4-year-old boy has died three days after witnesses say he saved a
3-year-old girl from drowning in a North Texas neighborhood pool.
In a statement issued last week, Cris and Misty Vento said they had decided to remove their son, Xander (ZAN’-dur) Vento, from life support at Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth.
They said they would donate their son’s organs.
Xander Vento had been hospitalised since he was removed from a pool last Monday afternoon and lapsed into a coma.
Medstar ambulance spokesman Matt Zavadsky says witnesses told paramedics that Xander and a 3-year-old girl were in the pool when the girl started to drown.
They said Xander held the struggling girl’s head above water until she was safe but became exhausted and slipped below the water’s surface. - KT
