R. Diab delivered four healthy babies on Saturday at 10.42am at the City Hospital in Dubai Healthcare City.
The overjoyed parents are celebrating the rare arrival of the quadruplets, two boys and two girls who weigh between 1.35kg and 1.73kg. Doctors at the hospital are equally thrilled as this is the first set of quadruplets born in the hospital. The babies were prematurely born at 33 weeks and are currently placed in incubators.
Dr Abdelazeim Abdalla, consultant neonatologist at the hospital, said that the babies and the mother are all healthy. “They are perfectly healthy. The fourth boy who weighs 1.35kg is currently under respiratory support. He should be fine once his weight stabilises, which should happen in a matter of two weeks. There is nothing to worry about,” said Dr Abdalla.
Diab, already a mother of a five-year-old daughter, said that she plans on naming her children Faris, Saif, Taj and Yara, respectively. “I am very grateful to the hospital for their support. We really appreciate what they have done to bring the children in safely. We realised only at the fourth month of my pregnancy that I was carrying quadruplets. The initial scan showed twins,” said Diab.
The first baby was born at 10.42am, the second one arrived at 10.45, and the remaining two arrived at 10.46 and 10.47. Diab added she is really thrilled at the birth of the quadruplets and is concerned about giving her babies the best amidst rising expenses.
“Products like diapers, milk and vaccinations are really expensive. Our biggest concern at the moment is giving them complete care and managing finances at the same time,” she said. - KT
