Police defuse bomb in Madurai; Narendra Modi cancelled his visit to the city last week

Madurai:: The police in Madurai have reportedly defused a bomb sent in a parcel. According to a senior police officer, last night an unidentified man had left a parcel at a jewellery shop that was to be delivered to another person in the city.

This morning the police were alerted when the parcel was found to contain a bomb that was connected to a timer device, following which it was defused, said the police officer.

The police have begun investigating who left the parcel and who was it meant for.

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi was scheduled to participate in a conference on the outskirts of the city today but his programme was cancelled a few days ago.

Last October, a bomb was found on BJP leader L K Advani's route, under a bridge on the outskirts of the temple town.-NDTV-
