Food outlets in ICAD fined and warned for violations

None of the 39 food outlets examined in the Industrial City of Abu Dhabi (ICAD) was in full compliance with food safety rules, announced the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) after an inspection campaign targeting the labour city and Musaffah’s commercial area.
Inspectors visited a total of 130 outlets in both areas and found only 27 abiding by all of the food safety regulations.
In the ICAD, where each inspected restaurant supplies food to labourers, eight outlets were charged with serious food safety violations and the remaining 31 were issued warnings. In Musaffah’s commercial area, the inspection of 91 food outlets resulted in 64 warnings. Common food safety infringements included storage techniques that cause cross-contamination, improper methods of food preparation and poorly ventilated, unhygienic cooking areas, said Ahmed Abdul Karim Al Sharaf, ADFCA acting Director of Communication and Community Service.

“Along with taking action against erring establishments, the inspectors also try to spread awareness about food safety norms among the workers and handlers at the restaurants,” he stated. “Some restaurants carried on activities they were not given permission for. Whatever the reasons, they all had the potential to inflict harm on the health of the consumers.”
