The deceased are Varamahalaxmi (38) and her 11-year-old daughter Gagana of Channapatna of Ramanagara in Bangalore. Their relatives had lodged a complaint at the Chennapatna Police Station after they went missing. Reportedly, the two reached St. Mary’s Island on the morning of Oct 8 Monday.
The two belonged to a well-off and highly respected family, but Varamahalaxmi was distressed after her son committed suicide 2 months back. Her husband became bed-ridden after the death of their son.
Varamahalaxmi had called up her family members before jumping into the sea with her daughter.
Post mortem was conducted on the bodies and then handed over to the family. - MT
