Mangalore: Congress President Sonia Gandhi will undertake a one day
visit to Karnataka today, her second this year, to galvanise partymen
for next year's assembly election.
During her brief visit to the coastal town of Mangalore, she would address prominent leaders of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada district and party workers, Congress sources said.
Later she would launch the 'Kudroli Gokarnatha Temple Centenary celebrations' and Mangalore Dasara festivities, they said. Gandhi,who will arrive here by a special aircraft by 1300 hrs tomorrow, is expected to return to Delhi by the evening.
In April she participated in the Guruvandana programme and birthday celebrations of centenarian Sri Shivakumara Swamiji, the pontiff of Siddaganga mutt in Tumkur.
Her visit to this coastal district assumes significance as Congress is trying to re-establish its popularity in this region, which has now become a BJP stronghold.
